LibreOffice browser plugin for Google Chromium/Chrome

Hello!

I have Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS with LibreOffice 3.5.7 + mozilla-libreoffice plugin and Gentoo with LibreOffice 4.0.
Mozilla plugin works in Firefox, Seamonkey and Opera. It’s great!

Google Chrome 24.0.1312.70 (Official Build 181759) detects this plug-in on file-level (it is located in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libnpsoplugin.so) but reports an error “Could not load LibreOffice Plug-in” on openning *.doc file.

Is it possible to adapt this plug-in for Chrome/Chromium?

2014-09-26 update In-browser ODF viewing capability is being deprecated in LO v4.4. Support of browser plug-ins by Chrome and Firefox appears to gradually be on a downward trend and this is cited as the rationale. The related bugs below will likely be closed.

For anyone reading along at home, here are the Online Help docs for the Browser Plugin.

Hi @Norbert,

It’s probably possible to adapt this plugin. I’m not exactly sure how much work that would entail, but I think your best bet is to file an enhancement bug and provide detailed information about what works/doesn’t work when you try to use the plugin with Chrom{e|ium}. Don’t forget to mark your bug as an ‘enhancement’. The QA team will be happy to help you triage your feature request in the bugtracker.

Please post a link to any bugs you file in a comment below using the format “fdo#123456”.

Thanks!
