Yes, you can. In fact given the default small icons used in the interface it provides more "workable" screen area than some alternatives.
Since the netbook has a (small :) ) widescreen resolution I prefer to move the main toolbars to each side of the usable area so that I can see more lines/rows.
Even using larger font size for Windows (Asus Font Sizer: Large) I haven't found a dialog that didn't fit the screen (although at that font size you need to scroll some of the Menus)
