Deleted page style reapplied after save

I am using version 5.2.3.3. of Libre Office Writer.

I started with a document that had a cover sheet that used the Default page style. After the cover page are a bunch of pages of a page style that I created. Since I didn't want the cover sheet I deleted it. Everything looks good and I save the file. When I reopen the file the page style for the first page that should have used the page style that I created reverts to the Default page style. Short of recreating the file from scratch is there a way to fix this.

How did you switch from Default style for the cover to the subsequent style?

  • With a manual page break forcing the style? (it might have been deleted when erasing cover)
  • With linked style in modified Default style? (I doubt you changed the style)

In the first case, the switch indication disappeared and LO Writer has no longer any instruction to switch.

The fix is through the style side panel:

  • open it with F11
  • click on the fourth icon from the left in the tool bar (page styles)
  • put the cursor in the first page (for which you want to fix the page style)
  • double-click on the page style name in style panel

You're done.

I believe that you have accurately described what I did. I did try to set the page style for the first page as you described and save the file but when I opened it again it reverted to the Default style. There is probably something in the XML file that is not getting deleted when the change is made. Since then I recreated the file from scratch and stupidly deleted the original file so I can't test any suggested answers.

OK. Then close the question as no longer relevant.
