Cell A1 = 01/09/2017
can I Ask Calc To Check the date in Cell A1 against the Current Date?
Maybe this would be done via an internet time server?

See the functions TODAY() and NOW()
From the Help:
NOW
Returns the computer system date and time. The value is updated when you recalculate the document or each time that a cell value is modified.
TODAY
Returns the current computer system date. The value is updated when you reopen the document or modify values in the document.
