Password protected spreadsheets won't allow editing after update

I have two spreadsheets that are password protected. Before update 2-3 days ago, they opened in read-only, or if you click edit and enter password, it would open and everything was fine. Since update, when you enter pwd, it does nothing. I make changes go to save and get msg saying doc is read-only unable to save as same name.

Please, what are the LibreOffice version, Operating system and file format?

Version: 5.4.1.2 (x64)
It is in .xls format
Worked fine in previous version. Have to keep in .xls, cause of various computers I use. This was on Windows 10. But I go between Windows 10 and 7.

There is a reported bug.

Password protected .xls files stay in “Read Only” mode even if the password is entered (File Sharing pwd)
