I am new user to Libre office. I receive emails with csv file attachments. When I open the csv attachment in MozillaThunderbird, it will open Libre calc but the file type is txt so it is not displayed as a spreadsheet. No luck in finding a solution in the Thunderbird forums.

You need to save the CSV files to your system. Then in LibO you need to select OPEN and select the file you need to open. If the file has a .csv extension, you need to follow the menus and select the appropriate settings. If the extension is not .csv you should select “Text CSV” in the file type entry.
The HELP entry CSV files;importing and exporting has details of this procedure. The clue is that .csv files need to be imported to make them a spreadsheet, otherwise they are, by definition, a text file.
