I need to scan in and then edit a document
It is a game of trail and error. OCR is not for the faint-hearted and even paid versions need to ‘learn’ and the user need to adjust the workflow to get usable results.
If you are able to type blind, it is probably faster just to type and edit in one go.
I tried some free versions longer ago, so maybe results will be better today. Also if your target language is English results will be better than with exotic languages.
Test the software, you can influence the result by scanning the original lighter or darker if the scanner (software) allows this.
Use the found settings for this workflow:
Scan original → spell check the result → edit.
