getyahoo function returns "Forbidden"

I just encountered this and since I use this function almost daily, it could only have been in the last 48 hours that it began.

the getyahoo function of the SMF extension (which is used to return stock price and other info) returns the string “Forbidden”. I believe this is the first word in “Forbidden this link is not authorized by Yahoo.” so my guess is that some brilliant person at Yahoo decided to de-authorize or move the links for stock info.

I don’t expect anyone to “fix” this for me, though perhaps someone will confirm that it isn’t just me that is having a problem. I just want to get it on record and hope that the person who developed the extension will be kind enough to fix it and release an update, assuming that Yahoo hasn’t made that impossible.

BTW I was using SMF version 0.8.0 when I encountered the problem. I searched for a later version and loaded 0.9.33 which returned the same string (i.e. “Forbidden”).

And just for reference, I am currently logged in as Yahoo user.

If I can figure out how to directly email the person who created the extension I will do so.

If this can’t be fixed, most of my spreadsheets will become useless. (insert long string of foul language here).

tI downloaded the source code and figured out what a URL call would look like, entered it in my browser and got this back:

It has come to our attention that this service is being used in violation of the Yahoo Terms of Service. As such, the service is being discontinued. For all future markets and equities data research, please refer to finance.yahoo.com.

seems like the end of the line for getting data from yahoo.
