I am running version 5.4.2.2 on Ubuntu Mate 16.04.
The Notebookbar option is available from the View… menu. However, all the Notebookbar options are grayed out. How can I enable them?

Tools → Options → LibreOffice → Advanced → Enable experimental features. After restarting the program you need to activate the Notebookbar on View → Toolbar layout → Notebookbar: only then all Notebookbar options will be available.
Thank you! I forgot to select View…Toolbar layout … Notebook bar. Works like a charm!
