In Impress how can I export images at their original resolution ?

I want to export as images at the highest possible quality and with the original dimensions of each image - not downsized or upsized or processed in any way.

I’ve created an impress document and pasted a picture into it. The image resolution was 4608 x 3456

The export dialog permits the user to define the width and height or to leave blank ‘for defaults’.

Leaving ‘defaults’ blank and exporting as images at 100% quality and as .jpg, the exported image comes out at 1058 x 794. How were those dimensions arrived at ? They aren’t a simple ratio of the original.

So what does ‘defaults’ mean ?

Defining 100% quality and width of 6000 in the dialog, the export goes ahead with no warning that the image will be upsized.

Ideally one would hope for the option to export the images in their original form with no modification, I thought that’s what ‘defaults’ would mean.

Any advice ?

Open the impress document as ZIP archive, and find the images in a Pictures subdirectory.

Also, right-clicking the image and choosing “Save…” should do that correctly.

This works but it would be nice to hear from the author(s) of the ‘Export as images’ extension as to the intention / function of the dialog, the ‘defaults’ settings and why there doesn’t seem to be the option to export the images at their original resolution.

I solved this as follows.

First, I had to export the images to SVG format, since nothing else had good resolution, as many others have discovered.

However, there seems to be a big difference between Impress and Draw when exporting to SVG. Draw works much better, creating much more efficient exports. Then Inkscape can open and export to PNG, creating high resolution and small files.

I found images exported to SVG with Impress, once opened with Inkscape and then exported to PNG, created unusually large files - many tens of MB.

However, the same images, drawings I had created originally in Impress from many shapes with some tiny point 2 text, when copied over to Draw, then exported to SVG, did not have the same problem. I could open them with Inkscape, export as PNG in high resolution 600 dpi, and the results were both very high resolution, as you would export for 600 dpi, and at most a few 100’s of KB.

I find if I export directly to JPG I do NOT get a good resolution.
Instead, I export to PDF with high resolution, and then use GIMP to generate a good quality JPG.
Don’t know why LibreOffice Draw cannot do this directly, but the above works well.
