Can Libreoffice read Appleworks files?

Can Libreoffice read Appleworks files, expecially database files?

Duplicate of this question.

Not directly. But you can:

  1. Save the data as a TSV (Tab Separated Value) file, using the “ASCII Text” format.
  2. LibreOffice doesn’t recognize TSVs, but you can simply rename the file so that it has .csv (Comma Separated Value) extension instead.
  3. Open the file with any LibreOffice app, which should then open the Text Import dialog.
  4. In that dialog, under the Separator options, make sure Separated by is selected. Check Tab and if necessary, uncheck Semicolon and Space. You can see a preview of the import at the bottom.
  5. The data fill be imported into Calc.
  6. If you want to use that data in Base, you may first want to insert a row at the top of the spreadsheet and type in some column names.
  7. Then copy from Calc and paste into Base while viewing Tables. That will open the Copy Table dialog.
