Is there a mechanism in the Basic editor to cause it to move directly to a specified line number, thus eliminating the need to scroll, click on a line periodically, and watch the line number at the bottom of the IDE display?

From Menu Edit->Go To Line. You can also display line numbers. From Menu select View->Line Numbers. This is a toggle & line numbers will display to the left of each line of code.

If this answers your question please click on the ✔ (upper left area of answer).
