Problem with Calc spreadsheet. Says I created spreadsheet in "read only" Not true!

I have a spreadsheet that I use. Now when I open it it says it is open in “read only”.
How can I change this?

What OS are you using?

I have been using Windows 10 for quite awhile. Problem started after upgrading to 5.3

I agree w/ erAck below, that the most likely cause of this is insufficient file permissions. The permission structure on W10 is quite complex and it took me quite awhile to fully understand it, and how to use their tools to inspect, and edit it. The directory and file probably need to be owned by you (your user name). Also you might try at first simply setting “Full control” for each of these. Inheritance also plays a part so watch out for that.

Can you edit this spreadsheet with some other program, like a text editor that will handle binary files? (First make a copy of it!) And then can you edit and save it? This should help figure out if it’s a permission problem or some other problem.

Check the file’s permissions on file system level, it needs to be writeable. You didn’t specify your OS, but if you upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 there are some known quirks around user access rights and file permissions, search the interweb in that case.
