Draw size choices: 'Distribute on multiple sheets of paper' vs. 'Tile sheet on paper with repeated pages'?

What’s the difference between these two Draw printing Size modes? Help does not cover these modes.

  • Distribute on multiple sheets of paper
  • Tile sheet on paper with repeated pages

I want to print a 36" wide poster on multiple landscape pages.

tdf#63905:

Tile pages puts multiple small pages
onto one large page, unscaled. For
instance, if you create a drawing with
a page format of 4.25"x 5.5" (1/4th of
a letter page) and print that on
letter paper with tiling, it will put
4 non-scaled images on one sheet of
letter paper. Tiling worked in
OpenOffice 3.2.1 and appears to work
properly in LO 4.4.0.1 rc1, but only
when I force it to use paper size from
print preferences. From your
description above, it sounds like your
commit should fix this issue.

I don’t think the description of “Tile
sheet of paper with repeated pages” is
very meaningful, but I can’t come up
with anything better. It literally is
just tiling the pages.

tdf#84051:

when you set page size to A2, and in
printing set paper size as A4 and have
“Distribute on multiple sheets of
paper” selected, page will be printed
to 9 pages

(I suppose that 9 is because paper has printing margins, so actual printable width/height of A2 is less than A4 x 2)

I’d suggest you to file a bug against LibreOffice Help

Edit: I filed an enhancement request for restructuring of these two options. (Still, please file a separate bug against help, as proposed above.)

Mike Kaganski, right, you need to add some room to print register marks, so you can glue the sheets as good as possible together, that s why you often get 9 A4 pages in stead of A4 pages.

If you want to design to a maximum of 4 sheets, you have to adjust the original paper size, to a custom size that is slightly smaller than an A2 sheet.

@mikekaganski, I see. Thank you. I added to your Enhancement Request:

  • Document page is larger than printer page
-Print each document page onto multiple smaller printer pages.

  • Document page is smaller than printer page
-Print multiple small pages onto a single larger printer page.
