Can Writer be used in isolation

Wanting to get away from Microsoft Office and Word I d/loaded LibreOffice and like the look and feel of this open source program.
However, I often need to just view a note and it is cumbersome to have to open the whole Office Suite.
Is it possible to isolate Writer from the Suite?

What is your operating system?

The details depend on the operating system, but the basic idea is that there is a general LibreOffice launcher as well as a specific Writer launcher. Use the Writer launcher. (“Isolate” is not the right way to describe this. It simply starts by showing the Writer component.)

Also, change the default file associations if needed so that double-clicking on an ODT file will open in Writer.

No, it is not.

If you receive a document, you can open Writer directly to view it, without going through the welcome screen. As LibO is an integrated package most of the code is shared between the separate “applications”. Thus there would be little performance in just “opening” writer.

I believe this question has already been asked before.

Thanks Mike and Peter.
Perhaps the question has been answered before, I’m sure it’s a common one, but may I say as a newcomer that signing up and gaining entrance to this site was not an easy task. On several occasions I was unable to get the capture to open and all and had to leave the site. At other times the capture was not in English and I didnt know what was being asked. Finally, I’ve never had to go through so many iterations of a capture… what’s the purpose?

It would be useful to know what I need to do Peter in order to have a document open without the welcome screen.

It’s not some purpose, it’s broken captcha.

To open a document , you normally double click it. This way, it opens in appropriate module (e. g. writer) without start center screen.

One of the things you’ll learn about this site is that nearly everyone complains about it. It’s not particularly well-designed, and that seems unlikely to change. However, there is a lot of good information here if you can find it.
