I have a lot of old Microsoft Word files that I now want to use ONLY in LibreOffice Word.
I’m now finished with Microsoft but I still want to be able to work in them with LibreOffice.
Please tell me how to do this.

Just open them with LO Writer.
If they are really old, you may encounter problems with legacy character sets. Present applications use Unicode but antique applications (say more then 15 years old) used whatever character set was in force on the platform.
If conversion does not work out-of-the-box, you may have to download older LO version because some input filters have been dropped, considering the formats were no longer in use.
