Why multiple print jobs when printing one page 50 times?

I am using LibreOffice Version: 5.4.2.2 Build ID: 1:5.4.2-0ubuntu0.17.10.1 CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 4.13; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3; Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); Calc: group under Ubuntu 17.10, printing to a Brother HL-L2340D Laser printer. I print a bulletin weekly, about 55 copies. When I send a print job (1 page) to the printer and specify 50 copies, LibreOffice Writer laboriously sends 50 separate print jobs to the printer! It should send the print job and say "print this 50 times." But no, it takes over an hour to get 50 pages out of the printer. This does not happen with LibreOffice Writer under Windows.

Is there any adjustment I can make to stop this puzzling behavior?
