how to close phantom version

I just installed LibreOffice 5 on my MacBook Air. When I tried opening a very recent file (from today), I received an error message that says

"Either another instance of LibreOffice is accessing your personal settings or your personal settings are locked.
Simultaneous access can lead to inconsistencies in your personal settings. Before continuing, you should make sure user ‘thomasnalesnik’ closes LibreOffice on host ‘Thomass-MacBook-Air-3.local’.

Do you really want to continue?"

This sounds similar to a situation another user was experiencing with a phantom version. How can I close this other LibreOffice? And where is it? Or how do I unlock my personal settings?

Check that in your user profile’s parent directory (i.e., LibreOffice/4), there’s no (hidden) .lock file. If it exists, just delete it. There’s for sure no “phantom versions”, just a leftover lock.

How do I find the user profile parent directory? I’m not a code person - have done a little HTML, but virtually no deep diving at all with things like a Terminal app in utilities. I wouldn’t even know how to look for it unless someone told me.

Had you seen the link I gave in the comment above, that you reply to? There’s plenty of information about that, including Default locations for different platforms.

Thanks, Mike. I just checked that. On my Mac, in the Applications Support folder, there is no folder for LibreOffice. Could it be hidden somewhere else?

Well… it should be somewhere. But I got no mac, so - sorry, no idea where to look for if that documentation is wrong :frowning:
