LibreOffice Base wont close

HI,

I must say I am pleased with Libre Office and in particular the Base section. However I have a problem in that when shutting the program down from base, it refuses to do so. I either have too close the program by right clicking on its icon in my task bar and selecting “Close Window,” or use “CTRL-ALT-Del” to close. Is there a fix for this?
I am running version 5.4.4.2. Fortunately when I reopen the program the option to recover works fine!

Thanks & Regards,

Jim

I’m sorry. Was my comment posted to you here unclear? What DB (default embedded, split, HSQL server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.) are you using? What OS? Can you provide a sample? When does this happen? Immediately after opening - Can close then? Only after opening a form? Does it occur when creating a new Base file? Are you using macros?

I have the same problem when I edit, save a “Report” & then exit program (cursor keeps spinning. All the rest works fine. I recently converted from Apache. I have tried other JRE 64 bit java versions as suggested by someone else. Thanks for your help!

Ratslinger, I have just this moment, read your comment to me in a similar post. I’m not sure how to answer your question as I am fairly new to using databases and base in LO. I would guess I have generated a default database and associated forms, queries and reports as I endevour to learn the program. My single table has been generated by converting a WPS office spread sheet into a LO “Calc” and then copying and pasting the calc data into a LO base. Whenever I try to close “Base” it does not!

Sorry, info is important. OS??? Steps used to create “Converted WPS/Calc/Base” table? How about a sample? Can you create an empty Base file & close it OK? This is third request for some of these items. Your actual problem is most likely due to how this Base file was constructed.

My O/S is Windows 10. I will try shortly to create a fresh table. I was following the tutorial by “The frugal Computer Guy” on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_W-FAT3XE4 on how to import data from a calc file. To get the calc file I simply opened a WPS “.et” file in LO and re-saved it. I don’t know how I can give you a sample or what sample you require. Thanks, Jim.

Hello,

Try this. Attached is a simple sample Base file. Download it. Open it. Look at forms/table(s). Close it. Any problems?

SubForms.odb

I opened your sample and all the available forms etc and was able to close by clicking on the “X.”
In addition, my database also now closes by clicking on the “X.”

It seems that whatever the problem was, it has rectified itself.

Thank you for your help.

Jim

@JamesAB First, glad all seems to be working. Also, again, please do not post a response as an answer - use comments unless the answer actually answers the original question.

I can’t close a database by pressing X or Exit/Close.

I created a new table and had the same problem of an inability to close the program.

However, I noted that I was shutting down the program by clicking on the “X” at the top right of the screen. I tried using the exit function under the file menu and, so far, by this means, the program has closed properly each time. I will investigate further and report my findings. Jim
