Hi, we have been using your libreoffice 3.5 (text and spreadsheet) for a few months now and it has been fine. However yesterday it seemed to suddenly get lots of bugs. Issues we are having:

  1. Won't check for updates.
  2. Won't sort data.
  3. A separate window has appeared saying :The last time you opened LibreOffice, it unexpectedly quit while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again?" It offers the choice of "don't Reopen" or "Reopen". Neither works, and the warning window is there permanently.
  4. The program won't quit, or even give me the choice to quit (the option is dulled and cannot be pressed). I have to force quit if I want to close it.
  5. If I right-click on the LO symbol on the dashboard, the documents I have opened are dulled, so I cannot go between documents easily.
  6. When I have 2 documents open, the back one won't jump to the front, even if I click on it.

This morning I tried to update but couldn't, so I downloaded version 4 off your site, deleted V3.5 and installed version 4. There have been no changes! All the issues still stand!

Your quick assistance would be really appreciated (we use LO every day for our business), as would a cure that can be done by this non-tech-savvy idiot writing this!

We are using Mac OSx 10.8.2

Thanks for your assistance,

Mike

(3) A separate window has appeared saying :The last time you opened LibreOffice, it unexpectedly quit while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again?" It offers the choice of "don't Reopen" or "Reopen". Neither works, and the warning window is there permanently.

(4) The program won't quit, or even give me the choice to quit (the option is dulled and cannot be pressed). I have to force quit if I want to close it.

Please have a look at these answers (reported bug, workaround):
LibreOffice startup always asking reopen windows.

Hi Mike,

The first thing I would do is to use the Rollback feature in Mac OS X to rollback the computer to just before the problem started. Then uninstall LibreOffice 3.5 and install LibreOffice 4.0. That way you're updating at a good known point when everything is operating correctly. Be sure to backup any data you cannot replace before doing this. I'll be watching this post to see how things progress.

Hi @PNFArmstay,

Sorry to hear that you've been experiencing so many issues with LibreOffice. It sounds like there are a number of different issues, so let's try to deal with them one at a time.

Won't check for updates.

If you've downloaded the newest or one of the newest builds, then there won't be any updates. Are you getting an error message when you run Help -> Check for Updates ?

Won't sort data.

The Online Help has some notes on Sorting Data. Is there something specific regarding sorting that isn't working for you?

A separate window has appeared saying :The last time you opened LibreOffice, it unexpectedly quit while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again?" It offers the choice of "don't Reopen" or "Reopen". Neither works, and the warning window is there permanently.

Hmm... that might be a bug in the software.

The program won't quit, or even give me the choice to quit (the option is dulled and cannot be pressed). I have to force quit if I want to close it.

This problem sounds similar to the previous one.

If I right-click on the LO symbol on the dashboard, the documents I have opened are dulled, so I cannot go between documents easily.

Dulled -- as in they are inaccessible, or? (I'm not sure what a dulled/greyed-out document typically means on a Mac...)

When I have 2 documents open, the back one won't jump to the front, even if I click on it.

Sounds similar to the previous problem.

By any chance, do you have another computer on which you can test LO 4.0? I'm curious if this problem is affecting just the computer, or if it might be an issue related to the documents you're editing.
