Best way to email a libreoffice doc to a word user?

tried to email 1 page doc with pictures to word user. they say arrived wrong and they couldn’t edit.
I sent as an attachment using ODT format . what’s best way to send ?
thanks

I had that problem when writing my thesis because my supervisor used MS Office. Some format would be changed when I sent my document to him, either in docx or odt format. The only solution for me at that time was sending the document in pdf format, which probably not relevant for your case.

Have you tried
Save As … MicrosoftWord 97-2003(.doc)
and sending that version to your colleagues?

If you have used very special formatting in your document, the conversion might not be perfect. Also, success might depend on which version of LibreOffice you are using and which version of Word they are using.

i’m using libreoffice 5.? and they have latest version of word.

As @ve3oat comments above, the best thing to do is use “Save as…” and then pick the “MicrosoftWord 97-2003(.doc)” option. Why this one?

  • Desktop MS Word doesn’t read/import ODT documents (I believe that Word online does, however);
  • with “Save as…”, using “Rich Text (.rtf)” would be another viable option;
  • however, in my experience, the DOC conversion is very good, and more reliable than DOCX format (especially when it comes to footnotes and tables).

MS Word does read/import ODT documents from Word 2007 SP2. But current version ODT 1.2 is supported from Word 2013. And LO writes 1.2 Extended. So there may be differences in rendering.
For exchange with MS, LO can be set to save ODT 1.2 or 1.1 in Tools-Options-Load/Save-General.
