Cannot add custom dictionary [solved]

I’m having problems with the dictionaries. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the program from a new download (but I did notice it maintained my preferences). I am a writer and I use a custom dictionary for each series or book. At first, I just dropped in the Wordbook folder from OO. They were visible in the Tools>Options>Writing Aids. And words that were special to that document and that dictionary were not marked. But then I saw there was no “add to dictionary” option when I right clicked. And if I hit F7, the “Add to Dictionary” button was grayed out.

I removed the Wordbook folder then copied it back in, using just the standard.dic and removing the rest. I got the missing add to dictionary and the button wasn’t gray. But now if I add a new dictionary to test it, when I leave the program and come back, that dictionary is gone. And if I do a search for standard.dic (after the reinstall), there isn’t one in the LibreOffice folder nor is there a Wordbook folder.

What is going on and what can I do to fix this?

LibreOffice 6.0.2.1 / Win10 64bit

I do not use a custom dictionary, but add words to the dictionary because of the K. J. Bible older words. So I like to save my user dictionary. And have transferred it to other laptops. So, not sure if I understand what you want, but the path to LibreOffice which keeps all our personal settings, and dictionary is C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4\User

I think I figured out what it was. The Wordbook folder permissions. In using my Google Fu, I came across one where it was talking about file permissions. I checked the folder and made sure all the permissions were set to me. I went into a document, added a new dictionary, and closed the document. This time the Wordbook had a folder called en-US and inside of it was the new dictionary. It had never created this folder before.

I moved one of my OO dic files over and opened the document again. I was able to add and edit to the dictionary. I closed again, reopened, and the changes were still there. AND I can right click a word and the “add to dictionary” is there AND I can choose which dictionary! Hoot!

I was coming to the conclusion I would have to drop LibreOffice and go back to OO.

Glad to hear ya got it!
