why is there no delete in calc

I use keyboard shortcuts when working on spreadsheets and am currently using OpenOffice. I would like to switch to LibreOffice but am unable to locate a “delete” option in Calc. Is there a way to add that so I can continue to delete rows and/or columns using keyboard shortcuts?

Thank you

Hello,

I don’t see one currently assigned. You can, however, assign you own combination.

  • From menu Tools->Customize...
  • Select Keyboard tab.
  • Under Category select Edit.
  • Under Function select Delete Rows (or Delete Columns).
  • Select one of the unassigned keys in Shortcut Keys.
  • Select LibreOffice (all of LO) or Calc option button (upper right corner).
  • Click Modify button.
  • Finally select OK button.

Test your key combination.

I would try exporting the shortcut setup from Apache OpenOffice and importing it to LibreOffice. Or simply copying the user profile.

However, without a really serious reason, I would not switch to LO. I use LO for text editing but prefer AOO for spreadsheets because of its much better stability.

For example, click on the “3” heading to select row 3.

select row 3

Then press Ctrl -. In AOO, this is Edit → Delete Cells, and in LO it’s Sheet → Delete Cells.

row 3 deleted

If no row or column is selected, then a dialog will pop up asking whether to delete the row or the column.
