I used to use Publisher to print names, labels on photos. What do I use in LibreOffice?

I draw maps, showing roads, rivers, boundaries with no text. I scan that, then use a desktop publisher to label the towns, roads, river, state boundaries. What does Libre Office have for desktop publishing?

I use the free GIMP software to add text, and other items to my jpg and png images. GIMP is not limited to just jpg and png file types. GIMP is somewhat similar to PhotoShop. GIMP has a little bit of a learning curve, so get some good reference documentation. The online GIMP manual is useful.

I suppose there’s no reason why LibreOffice Draw wouldn’t work for this:

It isn’t the part of LibreOffice I use most, but my hunch is that it would meet the need. Another possibility outside LibO is Inkscape, which I do use fairly often, but perhaps not so suitable for this use-case?

This looks like a great suggestion. It’s a beautiful illustration. I have found that a desktop publisher for Mac is available and I’ve decided to try it. Thanks for the suggestion.

I think the GIMP learning curve might be hard on my old brain, but I’m sure it would work. I have learned that there is a desktop publisher for my Mac and I think it will be very close to my experience with Microsoft Publisher, so I decided to try that. Thanks for the good suggestion.
