I usually find it much easier and faster to combine the docs, images, etc. in Writer, then Export to a Hybrid PDF, which embeds a .odf version of the document in the PDF. This allows you to open the PDF in writer for editing. You can set Writer to automatically save to a hybrid PDF when you click on the Export to PDF icon by clicking on File, then on Export as PDF. Under the General tab in the window that pops up, select Hybrid PDF (embed ODF file).

Maybe... it depends on your actual needs. If your documents are similar you can use a master document to group them all and then export that master to PDF. A simpler option would be to just export to PDF all your documents and then merge them with a dedicated tool like pdftk or pdfsam.
