Can I import a Word document into Libre Writer - if so, how?

I have a document in Word which I would like to import into Libre Writer so I don’t have to re-type the whole document. Is there a way to do this without re-typing a dozen or so pages. Help!

If Mike’s solution does not produce acceptable results for you, you may try out some online converters like zamzar etc.

Just open it with LibreOffice - that should be enough. If that doesn’t help, then please be more specific what doesn’t work for you, so that others could understand your problem and try to help.

Tks Mike - that worked perfectly - guess I thought it would be more complicated than that. Many tks.

My problem is that when I import word documents into LibreOffice they appear - uselessly - as Excel spreadsheets.

Please note: this area is for answers, not “me too” comments. But given what you say, something is going dreadfully wrong. I’ve been moving back and forth between the two office suites for years, and never experienced that! If this happens regularly for you, please ask about it as a fresh question including all the relevant detail you can. Thanks.

Right click the document file. Select Open With. Choose LibreOffice. If you want all of them to open in LibreOffice in the future, click the “always use this” box.

You can also just open LibreOffice and select “open file”.

Tk u for responding to my question - much appreciate it. I find Libre kind of confusing compared to Word. There just seems so much info hitting you in the face that it is daunting - did not find the help section to be much help. Tk u again to you and Mike. Quick responses from both of you.
