Grey half squares in corners

I just downloaded libreoffice to replace my six year old open office. All of my old open office documents opened but they have half squares in every corner. I can click on them but the option to cut them is blanked out.

Is there any way to remove them? Also, can I disable them for all future documents? They are really annoying and distracting and quite frankly, if I can’t remove them I’ll reinstall an old open office instead. Other than these horrible half squares, I much prefer libreoffice but I cannot deal with these.

(The blank in the photo is me making my text unreadable, not part of the problem. The circled half squares are the issue)

Just un-check that and they be will be gone.
