LibreOffice pretty lag under Chinese/Linux: 2 aspects

I’m Chinese, and I type English frequently. And I use Desktop Linux.

Comparsion: a lower specs office’s Windows XP Desktop and my Ubuntu Laptop (much better CPU/RAM and similar graphics)

  1. When combined font style in use, LibreOffice may be too laggy to use under Linux.

When my documents contain text in both Chinese & English, the whole LibreOffice program become laggy under Ubuntu when using English Interface, as Simplified Chinese Interface become not usable unless I specify font and language.

  1. Interface act much slower in Ubuntu than under Windows

On my Desktop PC, with Windows 7 LibreOffice perform drop-menu much faster, in compare to it with Linux Mint 14. While firefox is generally faster under Mint.

I heard LibreOffice isn’t native GTK+ application, is it a big factor for this issue?

When the Chinese Interface is in use, those lags become more obvious.

Which version of LO? fdo#62993 appears to be the same issue, but on Mac OS v10.8. Unfortunately the bug is not properly filled out. Could you add further details to it?

@jiero,

As @oweng notes above, filing a bug is the best way for us to address performance concerns. Please add the word “perf” to the whiteboard field of the bug report so that the developers can easily view all of the performance-related bugs in one list.
