Making Inline Automatically When Numbering Depth has Changed

Hi There;

I have a question. My document has many numbering depths such as:

1.item

1.1 another item

1.1.1 another item

I want the lines align a bit rightward automatically when numbering has more depths, (and a bit leftward when numbering has less depths, vice versa) such as this:

As you can see, when numbering goes from 3 to 3.1 and 3.6 to 3.6.1, inline goes towards rightward with a predefined space. Word aligns line automatically. I do not want to set alignment of line by hand if its depth has changed. I want Libreoffice writer automaticaly recognizes and aligns line. How can I do this in Libreoffice writer?

Thanks in advance.

All you have to do is customise the styling for chapter numbering.

  • Tools>Chapter numbering

  • In Numbering tab, make sure numbering is enabled and set to your needs

  • In Position tab, click successively on the levels and apply the following procedure

    • Aligned at is the starting position of the numbering area

    • Indent at is the left margin for the heading

    • Set Tab stop at to the same value as Ident at

All positions are absolute, with origin at left page margin.

Make sure you leave enough space between Aligned at and Indent at to contain the largest number at this level.

This indentation does not propagate to text paragraphs which follow a specific Heading n. In case you want to also indent text, define as many Text Body n paragraph style as you need.
