Hide fonts of unnecessary languages from the fonts drop-down.

By default, the font list contains a lot of fonts. The problem is, most of the fonts are for the languages I do not know. For example, Arab, Chinese, Indian fonts are useless to me. Having a lot of fonts makes it difficult to choose the font I want, and furthermore, scrolling on the list is choppy.

I think Microsoft Words had a feature to hide fonts for unnecessary languages. Can I do that with Writer?

Bug 101748.

Reported 2 years ago, and still “New”… I guess it is hopeless and I should just live with this. It seems the LibreOffice already knows the language each font belongs to (because it shows that on the right for many languages); how hard is it just too add some filter features in the settings, like a checkbox for languages…

Really? How?

The font selection window shows the last five fonts selected before all the other fonts in alphabetical order. If your default template selects up to five fonts, they will appear in your list. There are no language choices for most languages. For example Latin Extended-B, Greenlandic etc. Selecting fonts for specific languages is more difficult than it appears at first glance.

I wonder what makes people draw conclusions like “it’s 2 years old and still NEW → ergo hopeless”, without having any statistics on, say, the average age till fixing, let alone a fact that any statistics is unapplicable to a single case…

A bug may sit there for 15 years or more; and then one day some developer comes across it, finds interesting, and fixes. Or - even better - a user who needs that, gets courage and fixes it

I guess people believe there’s a kind of queue of bugs, that developers fix  In fact, there’s ~no queue. So - the time a bug spends in bug tracker means ~nothing at all.

I am not sure if it was Word or some other famous application such as some sort of Adobe product. But I guess implementing it would not technically difficult or time-consuming. Unfortunately, I do not have that skill, though.

Please let me support this request.
As a Mac user, the 350 language specific fonts out of 680 are a plague.

I made a list of all the useless fonts so I can use my font management application to quickly delete them all after each LibreOffice update.
Then I do not have the annoyance of wading through them all the time.

What operating system are you using?
Thinking of making a batch file or small application to automate the process.

Windows. But wouldn’t it cause unknown issues to actually delete default fonts, not just to hide them from the list?

On a Mac a LOT of these non-latin fonts are system-protected.
No way to delete them.
