In Libreoffice Writer 3.x it was possible to use the “sort” function of the “tools” menu after marking text.
When I try to do this in Libreoffice 4.0.2.2 the function is not available.
How do I sort lines in a text file now?
On my 4.0.2.2 the sort function on the tools menu is visible but disabled until I select some lines to sort.
And if you select several paragraphs? My 4.0.2.2 sorts text correctly
@0nickyet – any feedback welcome …
Sort is disabled even when I select some lines.
Sorting function is neither missing nor hidden. It’s disabled, regardless if text lines are selected or not.

So “Sort…” is always shown grayed out?

Yes, it’s always grayed out. I’m very familiar with the tool, use it for sorting my bibliographies all the time - it simply doesn’t work in this version.

Same like w_whalley and JohnSUN works fine in 4.0.2.2 and 4.0.1.2… Check in Tools->Customize under Menus if “Sort…” is there in the Tools-Menue list. If not just add it. Maybe it got somehow deleted??
Hi @0nickyet,
Sounds like we’ve either hidden the sorting function in 4.0, or you’ve found a regression. If you don’t get a good answer form the Ask site in the next week or so, please file a bug and provide a description of what worked in 3.x and doesn’t work in 4.x. The QA Team will be happy to help you track down this issue!
Please post a link to any bugs you file in a comment below using the format “fdo#123456”.
Thanks!
