How to paste tab delimited data into base table

If I’ve got a tab delimited/separated string, like this

word1[tab]word2[tab]word3

I can paste this into calc and each word ends up in a cell of it’s own, not all three words in the same cell.

But if I paste it into a base-table, I get the opposite. All words are pasted into the same column and not word1 in column1, word2 in column2, etc.

This is very annoying. Is there a fix/workaround for this?

I’ve tried pasting directly into the table and I’ve tried pasting into a form. None of them work the way I want.

Extra clarification: Calc is working just the way I want it, my problem is with how Base works.

In calc, have you tried with Menu/Edit/Past special/Unformatted text, selecting in the options window tab as delimiter.

And what if it doesn’t give you the options window? I have space-delimited text and it pastes the whole text in one cell…
