My Versions command is disabled (greyed out). Why? What do I need to do to enable the versions command? I am on LO for Linux 64-bit-deb. V 6.1.0.3.

The Versions command is enabled only after you save a file with type ODT. I haven't tested them all, but I tried the MS Word types, DocBook, Unified Office Format Text (UOT), RTF, and Office Open XML. None worked.

You need to save the file at least once: give to it a name and a place in your hard drive, and then you can start using the "versioning" system.

Sorry, that doesn't work. i created a new writer document of type docx and then saved it as a DOC file, closed it and then reopened it. Also tried stopping and restarting LO entirely - no luck. Also tried simply saving it and seeing the versions command. It was still disabled. Does the file type affect the versions command?

Yes, the file type is important: you need to use odt.
