Automatically Save as PDF

I’m sure many would appreciate the function of a setting where a text document would be automatically saved (exported) as a pdf right next to the original text document.

I notice there is a bug first reported in 2011 (Bug 34303 ) which points out the path of an exported pdf is not the same path as the text file one is editing.

Having that setting (automatically export as pdf beside the original) would be a great benefit for a great many users who need to share their work in pdf form.
Thanks for your attention.

I second this.

This functionality is already here. Isn’t this what you’re asking about?

Thanks for answering. Yes I mean the ‘Export As’ function. The problem being is that if you work on directory (a), save something and then move to directory (f) and work on something else, then try to export that text to pdf, LO propmpts you to save it in directory (a), not (f), where you are presently working. This has been an issue since 2011.link text

In LO options (Tools>options>load/save) there is the option of always saving a backup copy. (bak). I was suggesting that in Tools>options>load it would be good if there was an option to ‘Always save a copy in pdf’.

For me, this would be the ‘killer feature’ to move to LibreOffice Writer from MS-Word. I manage nearly 1000 documents that, every time I edit one, I also have to save it as PDF for distribution. I’d prefer it be limited to specific directory trees, but if it was completely global, that would be better than the manual process I currently follow.

The MultiFormatSave extension may help.

It will save ODT and PDF at once to a directory you specify.

Not exactly what you want but a workable solution.

If this has answered your question please check the checkmark at left.

.

Thank you, tested, that IS a workable solution, it is only 2 clicks more, relatively convenient. (When I tried it corrupted the docx file so that Word couldn’t read it anymore & the formatting was totally borked. I’m going to assume this has nothing to do with the extension and a generic problem with LibreOffice not being able to read/write Docx files correctly. So if I can get LibreWriter to not do that, this extension will indeed be good enough especially for people not using docx files)

I can’t check the checkmark because your reply was to the original question not mine. I would have if I could have.

Do you know where I should report bugs in the extension? I am unable to create the docx corruption when I use other save options in LibreWriter. The docx is only corrupted (MS-Word cannot read it) when I use MultiFormatSave to save.
