How do you select data from the cursor position to the end of the column without moving the screen window?

I want to select data from the current cursor position to the end of the column without moving the screen window.

Ctrl + shift + down arrow both moves the screen window and only selects until the first empty cell. Clicking on the column header selects the entire column, including rows above the cursor.

I want to select only rows below the cursor, to the end of the sheet, without moving the screen to the end of the sheet also, i.e. the view stays where it is like it does when you click the column header.

Hit Ctrl+Shift+T to enter the Name Box and append the end address to the cell address displayed there, for example when you are on cell A5 edit the field to A5:A1048576 for the rest of the column until its end, then hit Enter, the range gets selected without moving the view. Another possibility is to select to the end of the column first by repeated Ctrl+Shift+Down, which moves the view, then hit Enter followed by Shift+Enter and you’re back on the position where you started, though that cell will be on top (first row) of the view then.

I can’t vote, but thanks. This is a few more keystrokes than I’d prefer but it definitely is by far better than the attempted solutions I enumerated in the op.
