How did I save a spreadsheet with a chart in it, but as ODC

I had some data that was saved as an XLS file. I chose a range of times (Column a) and temps (column b) and inserted a chart. As far as I know I simply saved the file, but somehow all I ended up with was an ODC file that shows only the chart.

It would be handy to know how I did that, but also avoid it next time.

I have looked for answers but all I could find was exporting as an image.

Thanks for any help

Nick

Please compare your save options when you are outside of the inserted chart (any spreadsheet cell is selected) vs when you are in the chart editing mode (double-clicked the inserted chart and are able to select chart's parts and/or modify its type/rage/etc.). When in the latter mode, you can only save chart itself to an ODC file, while in the former, you save the spreadsheet.

Ahhh....double click! I clicked and had the chart selected but not in edit more.

Thanks very much. I was puzzled.
