I am using Version: 6.0.6.2 (x64) Build ID: 0c292870b25a325b5ed35f6b45599d2ea4458e77 CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0; UI render: default; Locale: en-US (en_US); Calc: group. I ask because it will make it easier when I try and write a long file.

When a saved Writer document is re-opened Shift+F5 will take you back to the last point edited.

I have not seen this in LO documentation, but it is an old shortcut from the days of Sun OpenOffice which still seems to work, in Win 7/LO 6.0.6 at least.

Not quite what you asked for, but I hope it helps you save some time.

+1 for this very useful shortcut, works in Linux/older releases. After your answer I found it under Tools>Customize, Keyboard tab as Restore Editing View, which is rather cryptic.
