I know how to insert Unicode values in LibreOffice Writer, but is there a way to find out which Unicode has been used to enter a character that is already there (ie. in someone else’s text)?

Thanks Mike, I think the problem is that I am using the Dutch version in which Alt-X is the shortcut for the Extra tab.
The link that I posted contains detailed procedure how to assign any shortcut to it, and also about special assignment in your locale - please read carefully:
