In my pivot table, I set the numeric format on the whole sheet (containing the pivot table) to 2 decimal places. If I change the Page Field to another selection, the format in the pivot table reverts to general. Is there a way to overcome this?
I am using Calc 3.5.7.2 (Ubuntu 12.04).

Theoretically, if you want change the format heritage from source data, you can change the styles for Pivot Table Menu/Format/Styles&Formatting the styles with the name beginning with Pivot Table.
But seems that it doesn’t work actually. I have reporting a bug pending of confirmation, fdo#64440.
I know that Kohei, a great developer, who usually solves the Pivot Table issues, is doing a deep work on the scalc core code, so maybe we need to be bit patients waiting for a solution.
