Does this current version of LibreOffice, Windows Version 4.0.2, open Wordperfect files.? I ask because I noticed the current OpenOffice version has dropped support for that file format, and I'm ready to try LibreOffice, instead.

The simple answer is yes, WPD files can be opened in LO. The Document Liberation Project is interested and active in maintaining support for this legacy file format (WPD) via the libwpd library (SourceForge page). A quick look at the code indicates references to many versions including WP1 to WP7, PreWP9, and WP10, however it is always a good idea to test support for the files you have.

Also refer this answer showing the file type selection dialog and this question about whether LO can save to the WordPerfect file format (it can't).
