Line Spacing Changes When Applied

asked 2018-12-10 13:54:09 +0200

Apologies if this is a dumb question.

I set my line spacing to a fixed spacing of 13 pt in a couple of styles. For some reason when I press “Apply” and “OK”, and then go back to the modify screen later, it resets the line spacing to 13.01 pt. It also does this for line spacing in other styles, too (26 pt becomes 25.99 pt).

I don't know if this is so minuscule that I shouldn't care about it, but I'm curious to know why this is happening, at least.

Internally, LO Writer uses its conventional distance unit and all measures are integer multiple of this basic quantum distance. Distances measured in pt, cm, inches or whatever must first be converted. As is usual with quantized entities, values expressed in units which are not multiple of the target cannot be exactly converted (there is no other integer between two integers).

Again, the internal values when converted back to the original unit, suffer also approximation.

From a practical point of view, this can be neglected unless you transmit your document to a professional printing shop using high-resolution type setter. Anyway, you won't see the difference with your eyes.
