I have a problem with Libreoffice find and replace. I discovered that there is something in my user profile which is causing this problem because renaming the ~/.config/libreoffice folder (I'm on Linux) solves the issue.

Is there a way to keep only the custom settings, words added to the dictionary and delete the rest?

First, can you make sure that you don't have regular expressions enabled for search and you don't search for specific style or attribute? Easiest way to make sure is if you click Advanced settings open and take a screenshot of the dialog.

The profile is thoroughly described here: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile#User_profile_content

settings are in libreoffice/4/user/registrymodifications.xcu

I found what the problem was. The option Similarity search was enabled. The problem is that using the simple find dialog (ctrl + f) should not use advanced settings used in a previous search using advanced options. I filed a bug and will be posting what the problem is there.

Glad you found it. And thanks for filing the bug report.
