Print Range - Clearing a print range doesn't get saved

I am using LibreOffice 6.1, which as of writing, is the most up to date version.

I have a spreadsheet with 6 tabs. I have defined print ranges on all sheets, but decided that I didn’t want to print sheet 5 and 6. So what I did to sheet 5 and sheet 6 was to Menu - Format - Print Ranges - Edit… then modified Print Range from -entire sheet- to -none-.

I save the file, close and reopen.

When you go to sheet 5 and 6, then Menu - Format - Print Ranges - Edit* - you would see that the Print Range is back to -entire sheet-.

Why is this so?

What format do you save to?

I default save in the Excel 2007-2019 (.xlsx) format.

You should never use a foreign file format for ongoing work. Work in ODF. Only after you have finalized it, export. Inter alia, I also encounter problems with changing print ranges in XLSX. So, once again, work in ODF.

I am using LibreOffice for modifying my xlsx and I have a bunch of them. It would be cumbersome to save them all in ODF and then convert back to xlsx. I have someone accessing the same files and she’s using Excel, but I do not have Excel so I can’t use that. Isn’t this considered a bug that would have to be corrected? If it works in ODF, shouldn’t it work in other formats as well.

  1. Either persuade her to use LibreOffice or get a copy of M$ Excel. Your current workflow is a straight way to data loss.
  2. It might be a bug, indeed, so make a good bug report and submit it to the right place.
