How to get chapters to each start on a new page

I’m writing a book with 100+ chapters, I’ve figured out how to specify each chapter title as a header so they are auto-numbered, but I also need to get each chapter to automatically begin on a new page, is there an easy way to do that?

You probably figured out that your chapter titles must be styled Heading 1. Just modify this style:

  • display the style navigator with F11
  • look for Heading 1, right-click on name and Modify
  • go to Text Flow tab
  • check Insert in Breaks section: this enables a Page break Before the paragraph

There are other advanced possibilities, like selecting a specific page style or resetting the page number. Experiment once you get accustomed to styles. Read the guide or at least, the built-in help.

Thank you for your help, I’m using a mac, so the f11 didn’t do anything. At the top of the page I went to the style tab, then headings 1 was selected, then below there is an “edit style” option, clicking on this brought up all sorts of options including “Text Flow”. I checked, “insert breaks” and it seems to be working now, Thanks again.

I got the new page, but I looking for a new “sheet of paper” I.e. a right side so when I edit pages in previous chapters, it does not affect the even / odd appearances in the next chapters. I have it on a “new page” but every time I edit earlier chapters, the chapter starts after it get flip flopped and page one shifts to the left or right of a sheet of paper making it tough to reprint a chapter.

@pmheart6: this deserves a question of its own because it is not the same as here. Yours is about the parity of the break. You need to create/configure page styles. If you don’t know what they are, read the Writer Guide while waiting for an answer after asking your question.
