How to install epiphany

Ive downloaded the Epiphany Browser. How do I use it from within Libre? How do I get Libre to recognise the Epiphany file?

What is “Epiphany file”? and how do you intend to use a web browser from office suite?

I am a new user trying to get going with Libre. I was advised by a Libre user to use the Epiphany Browser on the Libre platform, but now I dont know how to open epiphapny on the Libre platform? I have the downloaded Epiphany.deb file in the same directory as Libre on an external hard drive.

You don’t describe what you are trying to do. LibreOffice is an office suite. Its goal is to open and edit documents. Epiphany is a web browser; its goal is to show web pages. The two applications normally don’t intersect much: well, a web browser might be used to download a document from internet and then opened using LibreOffice; and a document may contain external links, clicking on which a system-default web browser might launch.

It’s possible to have some other scenarios (e.g., using macros) - but your “description” of what you are trying to achieve gives no clues to guess what to advise you. Much like “I have a doorbell; I bought a Volvo car, and don’t know how to attach one to the other”.

Oh! Do you mean you downloaded a .DEB file (Epiphany installer? Or some installer downloaded using Epiphany?), and intend to use LibreOffice to open it? That’s total misconception. .DEB files are packages to be used on Debian Linux and derivatives, to install software.

Hello,

if your question should read “How to manage epiphany starting when clicking on a hyperlink, which is contained in a LibreOffice document?” then this is not a LibreOffice question but a question of your operating system. LibreOffice just opens the browser defined as your operating system’s / desktop’s default browser. Since you did not mention the OS ( I assume Linux) or the desktop (may be GNOME) no further advice other than “Make epiphany your default browser application” can be given.

Ok, thanks I understand the situation better now. Epiphany runs independantly from Libre. Question , If Libre Portable is running on my computer is it running on a Linux operating system built into its software? Further once Ive opened Libre from the file Libreoffice base portable, (I presume Libre is running as a Linux program now?) How do I open Epiphany as the browser I use on Linux? (I havent installed Linux portable on my computer, only Libre portable) At the moment if I double click on the Epihany-Browser*.deb file it ask me “Open with?”

Hello

  • I’m not aware of any “Libre” platform. LibreOffice is an office suite and no platform (you should better use the term “operating system[OS]” instead of ‘platform’).

  • If you talk about .deb packages, you talk about the way software packages are packed (bundled) to be installed on your platform (OS).

  • In that sense epiphany.deb is the software package for the epiphany browser software on your platform (OS), which needs to be installed on your OS, before you can use it. LibreOffice is ‘just’ another software offered as .deb packages (amongst others)

  • To install .deb packages, have a look to the great search engine and search for “installing .deb files”. You’ll find plenty of information on that.
