Libre office crashes every-time i click on one of the tabs such as file, edit, view and so on. The dropdown menu opens for a sec and then all the open office apps crash. I am using ubuntu 12.10. Please help me correct this problem as this is affecting my work.

Which version of LO? Where was it installed from i.e., Ubuntu PPA or as a download from LO website? There have also been known User Profile issues that cause similar behaviour. Try moving your registrymodifications.xcu file elsewhere and then starting LO.
I have experienced the same problem. But when I upgraded Ubuntu to 13.04 the problem is gone, but the dropdown menus are now very slow, takes 3-4 seconds.
I renamed the user profile as user-old and a new profile was generated called user but that too did not fix that problem. I am using 4.0.3.3. I think i have got this from a PPA but before that there was an unsuccessful installation which might be causing this problem, but that was a while back and it is just now that these problems are comming up.

The file is in the User Profile directory. Refer the link I provided above. The previous install may be causing issues, although if that too came from a PPA you should be OK. Perhaps try downloading the LO website version and install that to see if it makes a difference. Uninstall you existing PPA version first though. I have had nothing but problems with PPA versions, although they are required for Unity integration I believe.
Ubuntu 12.10 is EOL. Please update.
Maybe you have some old version of LibreOffice with Unity integration which was pure in previous versions of LibreOffice. So if not on LibreOffice 4.x (see Help | About) then I suggest to install it. Try upgrading Ubuntu to 13.04. I have experienced the same problem. When I upgraded to 13.04 the problem is gone, but now the dropdown menus are very slow, takes 3-4 seconds, else fine.
I really like 12.10. I tried 13 but there were too many features which i liked which were not there.

I have the exact same problem. When I hit any of the menus, they are empty and after a few more seconds, LO shuts down.
I also run LO on Ubuntu 12.10 and have installed LO via a ppa. The problem occurred after I got an update from 4.0.2 to 4.0.3. I have tried to delete the registrymodification file mentioned above to no avail. I have also tried to delete the libreoffice folder in the .config folder, equally without success. I saw that there have been similar problems with 12.04 and that there has been a patch for 12.04, but not for 12.10. See:
Note, that this occurs in connection with Unity. Under gnome I don’t have any problems. Then the menus are displayed correctly and I can choose from them without LO closing down.
Upgrading to 13.04 is not an option for me because of the newly shortened support cycle for non-LTS-versions.
