After creating a Writer doc, saving it in OneDrive, and opening in Word on my iPad, it is in read-only mode.

After saving my docx file in Libre, saving it in OneDrive, I am trying to open it on my iPad for editing.

When open it in Microsoft Word, a message appears “READ ONLY - This is an older file format. TO make changes, make a copy of the file in the new format.”

I don’t want to make a new copy each time. Why do Libre Writer files only open in read-only mode in Word on my iPad?

Because Word assumes the files to be from an older version of Word. So it is finally a decision of Word to open in READ ONLY mode.
