Have been struggling with conditional formatting. Finally worked out how to make it do what I want it to do, but I am left with loads of now unwanted conditional formats. (eg untitled1.. untitled2.. untitled16 !) How can these be removed from the drop down box ? While I'm at it, can I remove others that I don't use ?

Do you mean that you want to remove the styles you have created while playing with conditional formats? Use F11 in the main Calc window to see style manager.

From the menu, choose Format>Conditional_Formatting>Manage... Here you can mark the area or cell that is no longer needed and click Remove.
