How to make Calc not look horrible?

Hi, I just downloaded Libreoffice as the top-rated alternative to MS Office per TechRadar. But when I opened my first file… it looks awful. Whereas Excel doesn’t have cell borders crossing text, Calc makes the cell border interfere. So if you have a lot of text (as I routinely do just based on how I used Excel), the result is a mess. Is there a way to adjust the viewing options to fix this?

You can see the issue at: https://snag.gy/Wc3J6r.jpg

Excel is on the left, and Libreoffice on the right.

“Horrible” doesn’t describe facts insofar.

Beauty is in the data.

Hmmm. Spreadsheets are spreadsheets and mainly made for spreadsheet functionality.
I personally have no problem with cell-grid lines and/or border lines crossing text.

However, you are not allone. See tdf#91005.

(The cell grid isn’t printed by default, and where the matter is relevant, cell borders can be removed or (in extreme cases) cells merged.)
