Turn headers/footers on/off per page?

Hi - I want to have a header but no footer on the first page, but a footer and no header on the second. How do I do this? I don’t know a lot about “page styles” - are these styles per-page and I can apply a different on to each page? Would I have to make new styles somehow? How do I do that? And it seems like you can only turn BOTH harders and footers on or off, not just one or the other. I know about the “First page” style but that turns both off. It would be handy if you could just individually turn headers and/or footers on/off for a page with a simple checkbox or something.

Thanks!

You basically need two styles, one for the first page and one for the rest. There is a property on page styles (it’s on the General tab of their definition) that set which is the next style. This way you can set “Style 1” to be followed by “Style 2”, and “Style 2” to be followed by itself. Then you apply the first page style for the first page of your document (or by using a proper page break) and when that fist page is full and the content move to the second page, the page style will be changed automatically.

You can associate page breaks with change of page styles to any paragraph style: this way you can get each chapter starting with “Style 1” page style by editing the “Heading 1” paragraph style.

In addition to @RGB-es’ answer, page style dialog has many tabs, two of which are Header and Footer. This is where you enable them and define their properties. They are independent from each other, meaning you can have none, one only or both, as you like.

Built-in styles are not “read-only”. If you don’t like their formatting, feel free to modify them. For instance, you can enable header in First page and footer in Default Style which would satisfy your specification.
